At the moment i don't do barbell curls, only dumbbell curls, however your method of training (pyramids) is a very effective way of building power. I would personally start the pyramid with 10 reps and finish with 2. For my final 2 reps i would be aiming to curl between 65kg and 80kg.

Your welcome mate, just remember to train the upper part of the curl and not to fully extend.

That's some serious weight to be doing pull-ups with Paul. 80kg is tough enough to curl let alone after a pyramid but a fantastic way to balance power with endurance. For yourself Alex i did specify a final range to aim for, 80kg is an enormous weight for an 85kg man.

How far down would you advocate doing these curls, just past parallel to the floor? The most I've curled is 65kg for a few on an olympic bar, but full range - it wasn't pretty!

Parallel to the floor Leon. It would take a huge man to fully extend with 80kg and if there is an 85kg man who does it he will have no arse or legs.

The questioning here caused me to doubt myself, so i've put it to the test.......... I have just done 2 sets of 2 reps with 80kg, bringing my ams parallel to the floor in the standing position.

That's no way to talk about Arsen Liliev

Oh I'm sure that's doable, but hard. Will take a lot of back strength too. I regularly curl 65kg-70kg for a few reps to parallel when setting the starting weight for my benching, don't think 80 is happening though

Alright, alright. Liliev is an exeptional human being. Can't say i've noticed his arse though.
