| if you have ever seen the film Jerry Maguire, then i think i can be forgiven before i even start. i know i have given my opinion before and that is all it is , my opinion; firstly Nick well done on having the best site in the UK, i dont get time on hear as i used to however i read some news on your forum what makes a pro. my opinion is that the problem with wrestlers is they want to run before they can walk. i started wrestling in 1987 on and off due to injuries and have changed my style over the years because of injuries. i am not the best, strongest technical wrestler however i have alot of experience and i thank God. i have seen only what i would call 10 pro in the UK since this time. dont get me wrong i have seen fab wrestlers with a fab technique however this does not make them a pro. As someone who is a pro can teach you all the techniques. the likes off Neil pickup, Paul Maiden these guys are legends. Wrestlers today want the status without even being able to wrestle and some of these could even lose a wrestle to a guy in the street. i believe this is where the problem is! it is fab that it is on TV and clubs are opening everywhere however clubs are run by coaches who are still learning. i have trained at Nicks club and believe me these coaches are genuiene coaches. if too many clubs open with coaches who are not sure what to do then you get wrestlers who can get injured or lose interest. I have been fortunate to train with many genuine coaches, Paul is amazing if he charged £50 then this is still cheap in comparison of what your getting. If you think you can armwrestle then i am confident that if you spent a day with a genuine coach you will admit you know nothing about armwrestling. we have to look after our genuine coaches. wrestlers should not worry about showing off to there friends that they are a pro wrestler. i have not wrote this to offend any one. however the next time someones asks what makes a pro- think about it. | |

| Hi Juien
I agree
The art is to wrestle safe not always to win
The first thing that Paul will do is to make you safe and thats what I show my club now
Yes it is nice to win
But its even nicer to be there for the next one and work your way up

| my apolgies in replying; i have been working all weekend.
Paul, i have been fortunate to see a few great champions over the years and i have my own heroes from Tony Durea and Neil pickup. Britain has had some World champions however when you were at the top of your game there has been no one to match you. You defeated every competition in front of you; the ordinary man in the street spoke of armwrestling and the name Paul Maiden. i am a manager of a gym and in the town where i live many asked if i knew Paul Maiden. I am so honoured and proud to know you. you defeated my top wrestlers with ease, i could see you thinking your way and you turned it into a chess game. you have to be the most well known wrestler ever in the UK. not many wrestlers realise that when you did pull that you pulled out of your weight class. the wrestlers today dont realise you have it all, the skill, technique, speed and strength. they should watch dvds of you to learn. i guarantee even if they did they will not understand what you did to get the pin. The sport will always need you. whatever opinion you have, should awlays be voiced as it is valuable for our sport. Wrestlers may not realise how much you put the sport first and value all wrestlers. When you give advice wrestlers would be daft not to listen. you have given me some very valuable advice and i have listened every time, thus enabling me to capture more titles so i thank you. i believe Britain would value a national coach when you do find time; there is no one better in that position than you. all wrestlers in the UK would gain so much to have you training and being there giving more international competition advice.
i pray you do make it back more importantly you stay well and stay in the game. you dont realise the level of respect you have from wrestlers world wide. you are a true champion and legend. This southern softy as you say ha will always know you as the real peoples world champion. god bless you

This southern softy as you say ha will always know you as the real peoples world champion. god bless you Hi Jules i really dont no what to say but thankyou i think that is the nicest thing anybody has ever said to me or about me My take on my wrestling carrer is that i have tried to befriend everybody from the novice to the top pro i dont have a click and have time for anybody even though sometimes i feel a little rude when you have ten people trying talk to you at once and you cant answer in the way you would like,i have met lots of great people threw armwrestling and its nice to say many are my best friends as well as rivals at the table,i dont consider myself a idol there are far more decarated pullers in the country than me but i do feel i was going places were only a handful have been...ive learnt alot from many pullers and have tried to put it into my own game like most top pullers ive practsed a toproll or 2 when iam sleeping lol,but thats pie in the sky now i have a new challange and thats to just get back at the table,i thank you again jules for your words and hope i dont let you down take care god bless

| I've got a lump in my throat. It's obvious you guys have a great deal of respect and love for each other and i'm grateful that you both chose to show it in the forum, instead of in a p.m. It gives everybody (myself included) insight into how we all should strive to develop the same level of respect and admiration for all those involved in the sport, from novice to pro, from reigning champions to champions past. Julien, Paul, Nick. I pray you all have a long and fruitful career ahead of you and others like myself have the privilege of meeting and learning from you. May the sovereign lord bless you all. |

| you are right what you say. Armwrestling as most sports take guts, determination, blood and heartache, pain and sweat. When you share this as athletes and when the likes of Paul and Nick keep you going; it places everything in order and makes alot of sense. i pray the young wrestlers of today can build through something that will last. i stand by what i say about Paul heading as a national coach and even if the government funded something. can you imagine how powerful as a nation we would be. beleive me i dont have to tell you the experience of Paul and Nick in Internatonal competition.i think Nick has been to 10 Worlds apologies if i have counted incorrectly Nick however the time the UK wrestlers get this type of experience they may lose interest. i have heard Paul give wrestlers some words of advice and watched his wrestlers come back to win. Priceless | |
