Trying to find some footage of our own guys before the british to get everyone motivated. It's all been removed, what's the deal here?

That's absolute bull****, there must be a way of sreening your own private videos in the forum. Eurosports don't have the right to stop people filming these events for themselves nor do they have a say in what friends show each other in the forum. Were not making money out of this nor are we stealing anything from them. Maybe it would be worth while trying to find a direct link between the footage and the forum, face book, my space or bebo for example. Then all those who view the forum while still have access to the footage. You tube is at the mercy of copyright because it is a global media network, face book my space and bebo are private. So basically, if the footage has been recorded by eurosports for example then copyright would prohibit you from screening it but if the footage has been recorded by your dad then copyright doesn't apply. We have to make sure that all future arm wrestling footage has been recorded on a personal camera.

The problem is that if they have paid for the rights to film it they are well within their rights to claim copyright on any footage at the event if I remember correctly. Any site that is open to the public / more than 1 person will be under copyright law.

Then that means nobody can film on the premises

Neil hgas ok'd it for anyone to film the comps that Eurosport film providing they don't stick it up on any sites before airing on Eurosport, after that he said it's ok to post so not sure why they all keep getting taken down.

No, you can film for your personal viewing but the issue comes in when you start to distribute the images. If a company has paid to video the footage they will not want any amateur footage to be aired before they show their footage.

no mate, I never mentioned Neil solds the rights, but if he has then its the purchasers right to own the copyright for a set period of time.

I'll clear this up at the weekend when i see Neil, he'll be able to shed some light on why all the footage keeps getting taken down.

Good, cause somethings put a spanner in the works and Owen's explanation of copyright makes sense.

Sounds pretty obvious really; Neil is paid to make the show by Eurosport / sells them the rights, thus Eurosport and their partners own the rights/copyright to the event footage.

In most sporting events which are videoed where the organiser sells/licences the video rights, anyone making an alternate video of the events is essentially committing piracy and breaching the conditions of entry to the event (which is normally NOT to film and/or distribute any footage). It's unusual in this case as Neil allows people video the shows with their own cameras, which would normally be forbidden.

Bear in mind the copyright claims department for Eurosport are probably not aware of any verbal agreement Neil makes with anyone attending the events, and will automatically put in claims for any footage which matches their database.

The obvious solution would be a "non-public" site with a log in, but then you wouldn't be able to host via YouTube.

However you could probably get around this and still use YouTube, giving any uploaded videos generic names like XYZ.vid and neglecting to put any descriptive information i.e "ali khan vs julian cini eurosport" probably gets the copyright departments attention right away

Thanks for the clarification Leon, i had an idea it would be something like this but knew that because other recording equipment would NOT be allowed on the premises, someone's wasn't saying something.

dad has never put a video out of a eurosport fight untill after the show has been aired so i dont know why they are being so stupid about it anyone in europe could record the shows and put them once they have been aired... me and dad are just as annoyed..

Who is it that removes the shows from you tube that your dad has put on? I was under the impression that only the person who put the footage on and the administrator(you tube) could remove them. If these shows have already been televised then informing you tube of this would stop them from removing them, also for the same reason your doesn't have to remove them.

i really dont know..the videos are still there but when u click to watch it says something like " can not be watched due to copywrite" dad had a email form soneone about i think...let u know when he bak from oz and after my tour

Ok, it'll be interesting to hear the out come.

Perhaps the answer here is to host the videos on a private server and have a forum section with restricted access where the public and even general members cannot view them.
Unfortuantly this would cost money, not a huge amount though.
Another option, put the videos on a site such as Rapidshare and distribute the links through the private section.
As long as members of the private section didnt give the links out noone would ever know they existed, and even if they did and your asked to remove them, just change the name of the file
